The reason why Germany was left in ruins is because "His downfall was drugs " (James L. Donahue).

Historians argue that wasn't fully responsible for the decisions that he made and rather the medications he was taking that were given to him by his quackish doctor Theodor Morrell. "But the man began mixing this drug with heroin. The combination drove him insane. After a while he lost his ability to be rational about the decisions he made. He consequently made deadly mistakes. They cost Germany the war and cost Hitler his life" (James L. Donahue).

The author even recommends that viewers should see Hitler in the most unbiased way possible "To be fair, we must remember that Hitler was a very popular leader among the German people before the war. He rose to power during a period of deep financial crisis, when the entire world was suffering from the Great Depression. Hitler brought stabilization to the nation's failing economy, created jobs, regenerated national pride after Germany was defeated in the Great War, and he developed social programs that people liked" (James L. Donahue).

The author gives a positive point of view on how "Hitler also was a genius in that he was able, in such a short time, to turn a defeated people into a war engine, the likes of which the world has never seen. He brought together a team of scientists who helped develop technologies that still influence the way we live. The popular Volkswagen "bug" was designed and produced on his order because he wanted Germany to have a car for the common man. He was a dynamic public speaker who excited the imagination of all who listened" (James L. Donahue).

Because of Hitler's involvement in the Holocaust, many refuse to realize the many positive contributions he had inputed, but "... Hitler failed. He consequently went down in the books as a demon-possessed character that never should have lived" (James L. Donahue).

James L. Donahue gives a brief explanation on how Hitler helped the German economy after WWI and on how he inspired the German people. He also explains the fact that Hitler did intake drug consumptions that greatly influenced his irrational decisions towards the end of WWII and which cost Germany the war and its destruction. The author questions whether or not it was really Hitler's fault that Germany was left in complete ruins after WWII ended, or was the drugs that he was consuming at the time.

I plan to use this source to support the idea that the reason why Germany was left in complete ruins after WWII wasn't entirely Hitler's fault and rather the drugs that he was consuming at the time.

By 1939, there was virtually no unemployment in Germany. Beauty of Work - the Nazis set up the SdA (Beauty of Work) to help Germans see that work was good, and that everyone who could work should. In fact - because the Nazis had abolished the trade unions, banned strikes, and given more power to the industrialists - real wages fell and hours were longer under Hitler. Re-armament begun in 1935 - the idea of 'guns before butter'"(POV).

There soon was no unemployment "Everybody had a job, and a wage. To people who had been unemployed and starving, 'work and bread' was a wonderful blessing worth every civil liberty they lost" (POV).

LIfe became more advanced for the German people "The autobahns improved transport and travel" (POV).

The services improved under Hitler's rule and "People appreciated the public works - eg new schools and hospitals" (POV).

People now felt safe as "The streets were safe and there was no crime" (POV).

It also provided few negative aspects, such as the economic programmes that failed but that did no damage to hurt the  German economy either. The author also gave descriptions on what the programmes and policies were and explained how each benefitted the economy as well.

The site has alot of educational links on all sorts of history and education.

There is a bias due to the fact that the author focuses much more on the positive aspects and positive benefits of Hitler's economic policies under his Nazi rule.

Use of Source: How will you use this source in your project? 

I plan to use this source to make my argument stronger on how Hitler only wanted to do good not only for the German people but for the rest of the Europe and the World as well. And to provide hard evidence that lists all the beneficial programmes and economic policies that Hitler passed under his rule.

Hitler was born just like any other human, no different, and "From a scientific point of view... we are forced to consider Hitler, the Fuehrer, not as a personal devil, wicked as his actions and philosophy may be, but as the expression of a state of mind existing in millions of people, not only in Germany but, to a smaller degree, in all civilized countries"(Dr. Stuart D. Stein).

We know from our study of many cases that the character of father is one of the major factors determining the character of the child during infancy, particularly that of a boy. Hitler's father "At home, on the other hand, particularly after he had been drinking, he appears the exact opposite. He is brutal, unjust and inconsiderate. He has no respect for anybody or anything. The world is all wrong and an unfit place in which to live. At such times he also plays the part of the bully and whips his wife and children who are unable to defend themselves. Under such circumstances the child becomes confused and is unable to identify himself with a clear-cut pattern which he can use as a guide for his own adjustment. Not only is this a severe handicap in itself but in addition the child is given a distorted picture of the world around him and the nature of the people in it" (Dr. Stuart D. Stein).

All Hitler ever wanted was a masculine figure that would care after him although "As a child Hitler must have felt this lack very keenly for throughout his later life we find him searching for a strong masculine figure whom he can respect and emulate. The men with whom he had contact during his childhood evidently could not fill the role of guide to his complete satisfaction. He has spent his life searching for a person worthy of the role but was unable to find one until he discovered himself. His goal is now to fulfill this role to millions of other people in a way in which he had hoped some person might do for him" and in turn all he wanted was to help his people and act as the masculine figure that he always wanted throughout his entire life (Dr. Stuart D. Stein).

Like I said before, Hitler was born just like any other human, with no antisemitic views and had great relationships with everyone during his childhood and teen years "There is absolutely no evidence that he had any anti-Semitic feeling before he left Linz or that he had any during the first years of his stay in Vienna. On the contrary, he was on the very best terms with Dr. Bloch while he was in Linz and sent him postcards with very warm sentiments for some time after he went to Vienna. Furthermore, his closest friends in Vienna were Jews, some of whom were extremely kind to him" therefore we cannot say that he is just pure evil, obviously there was a active catalyst somewhere in his life that influenced his views (Dr. Stuart D. Stein).

Due to the life he was raised into, Hitler psychologically progressed his undesired qualities onto others "another load of undesirable qualities was poured upon his head with the result that Hitler now hated and despised the Jew with the same intensity as he hated his former self. Obviously, Hitler could not rationalize his projection as long as he stood by himself as a single individual, nor could he combat the Jew single-handed. For this he needed a large group which would fit the picture he had created" (Dr. Stuart D. Stein).

By relating his early lifestyle to his days in Vienna and onwards to Germany's defeat in WWI, Dr. Stein shows Hitler's transformation. Dr. Stein also uses psychology to explain Hitler's personality, attitude, and personal views/beliefs.

I plan to use this source to prove that whatever negative affects that Hitler inputed into society wasn't entirely all Hitler's fault and that there are many factors that influenced Hitler to do what he did. And I plan to use this site to show that Hitler is psychologically misunderstood.

Proposed Topic in the form of an  Essential Question:

Can understanding Hitler's flaws and accomplishments help prevent society from stereotyping and judging people based off of only a few actions?

Rationale for Choice

What about this topic appeals to you? Why did you choose it?

History is my favorite subject and I love to read and study the biographies of many historical figures. I enjoy learning about the individual's upbringings, personality, and their input to society. I always view and talk about historical people in an unbiased way. I find it very important that today's society views these historical figures from all aspects, including bad and good.I believe that by doing this, people will no longer judge others based off of just one action, but start evaluating them based on all their typical human actions. This can lead to less stereotyping in the world. And I think that the most suitable person to defend this topic is Adolf Hitler. He has his flaws, but he also has his positive contributions.

What do you already know about this subject?

I already know quite a lot about WWI and WW2 and how the environment during this time period allowed the Nazi party to come into power. I also already know about the Holocaust and killings that Hitler allowed to happen just as much as I know about the benevolent factors that he performed to help society.

What are you hoping to learn about the subject?

I would like to learn if understanding one person's flaws and accomplishments can really change the way one person views everybody else.

What are you most interested in regarding the topic?

Im curious to see if people agree with my proposal and if not why or if they do agree I would like to know why as well. And I would like to find out if people find my topic interesting.                                                                                                                                                

What potential risks or challenges do you foresee for your project?

The most challenging aspect for my topic is  finding an appropriate place to do my community service. I hope that a museum of history can provide that opportunity because I would really like to keep my topic. Another thing I am concerned about is the audience/classroom's reaction to my topic when I present in front of class. Im afraid that people will think of me as a different person that I'm not because I heard from previous seniors that when they presented their topic they got negative crowd reactions, they were called names such as communist, and that people saw them as a different person that they were not. So I really hope that does not happen to me.

I believe statements

1. I believe that the constantly growing human population is greatly damaging our economy and Earth.
2. I believe that deforestation is hurting the earth in so many different ways.
3. I believe that the constant killing of dolphins is hurting the oceans' biomes which in turn hurts our environment as well.
4. Despite his deep antisemitism and inhumane actions, I believe that Adolf Hitler receives way too many negative criticisms, especially when his many achievements benefit our society today.
5. I believe that today's technology and society keeps us from appreciating and respecting nature and its wildlife and prevents us from truly living life.

Yes its true that Hitler's beliefs on how a pure Aryan race was superior to any other is extremely inappropriate and inhumane and Yes its true that his planned genocide killed about 12 million people and yes his particular actions led to a costly World War 2, but those conclude only a few malevolent factors. What many people don't realize is that Adolf Hitler did many more beneficial things, not just for Europe but also for us fellow Americans, than he did malevolent things. For example, he managed to put a very economically devastated Germany to an extremely powerful militaristic stable conquering country…(not that it is a good thing to be a conquering country at all). Only very few, if not any, historical political figures have been able to do what Hitler did to solve a country's economic crisis in such a specific manner within a very short period of time. Hitler had the brains and logical mindset for solving all of Germany's problems right after World War 1, and truly dedicated himself for the country for whatever means it took… something lacking in many still to this day. This is only one achievement out of many others that Hitler performed. I am not stating that we should suddenly praise Hitler, but instead we should not just focus on the negative traits and actions that people have and done. And this doesn't just apply to Hitler, but for all of us.
